In a time where companies, celebrities, organizations, and even governments are coming under cyber-attacks, getting hacked might seem inevitable. But there are some steps you can take to prevent it from happening to you.

In this article, I’m going to show you some useful tips to protect your social accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, email accounts, and computers etc.

What is Hacking?

Hacking is the process used by an attacker to take control of a target system without the knowledge of his owner. Most hacking is used for criminal activities.

What is Phishing?

Phishing is the act of attempting to gain personal information through electronic communications by passing as a trustworthy entity. Communications professing to be from popular social websites, banks, online payment processors, or IT administrators are commonly used to lure the unsuspecting public. These communications are carried out by email spoofing and instant messaging.

These are some useful tips for you:

1st Tip: Use two-factor authentication or two-step verification in your every account where you can. Your banking systems, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram all support the ability for you to enable an additional security layer that you may not know.

How to enable this security layer?

Well, this is very easy, just go to your account settings and search for two-factor or two-step verification option. Now enable it.

Here, you have two options for verification, Text Message or Phone Call. select according to your choice and

Every time that you log in, it’ll register your computer or phone, and you can then get a text message or phone call to go into that system as a second form of verification.

Why two-step verification is important?

That’s important because if a hacker or someone gets access to your password, they still have to have access to your phone to get access to your account. And that’s really important by enabling that specific security step, probably number one.

Note: Hackers can also call or message you for that verification code. Make sure, don’t share with anyone.

2nd Tip: Don’t use the same password for your every account. I know it’s hard to remember a different password for a different account, but using the same password everywhere is one of probably the easiest ways that we make hackers job easy.

So if you have the same Twitter password as your other social accounts, those are things that can get you in some serious trouble.

Note: Change your passwords frequently within 10-15 days.

3rd Tip: Make sure that you always stay up to date. Those security patches, every time you have a Windows update that says hey I need to update your computer, it’s usually to fix a known attack that hackers have figured out to get access to your computer.

So keep up to date all your systems, browsers, mobiles, applications etc. That’s the most important thing, always keep up to date your systems and applications.

Those are all things that you want to keep up to date and that makes it much harder for hackers to break into your system and steal your information.

4th Tip: Think before use, Every time when you install any software into your computers or mobile phones. Don’t forget to check their Privacy Policy.

Ask these questions to yourself before use:

  • What type of data they collect?
  • What permissions they need to allow?
  • Is this software safe to use?

Last but not least, 5th Tip: Best way to protect yourself from hackers is to use strong anti-hacking software such as Antivirus, Antimalware which will protect you against viruses, malware, spyware, ransomware and more.

Always use an updated Antivirus into your systems. They may be a Laptop or tablet or mobile phone. Good Antivirus makes hackers job hard to attack your system.
